Excavate the roadway to the desired elevation and fully compact the subgrade, ensuring all air is removed and the soil is tightly packed.
Roll out the geotextile fabric onto the compacted subgrade, ensuring it is free of wrinkles and folds. Follow the engineer's instructions for overlapping the fabric. If a stitch seam is required, Cherokee can pre-sew the fabric for you. Contact your Cherokee representative for pricing on factory-seamed rolls in wider widths.
If the fabric needs to be stitched on-site, use a dual thread lock stitch to prevent it from unthreading. We offer equipment for purchase or rental to assist with the stitching process. The engineer may recommend a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam. In this example, we will be using a j-seam. It is recommended to do two stitches on each seam to ensure no failure during installation.
Place the specified thickness of aggregate, taking care to avoid any equipment driving directly on the engineered fill. Ensure the fill is fully compacted before proceeding to the final step.
