Excavate the roadway to the desired elevation and fully compact the subgrade. Remove all air and tighten the soil completely.
Roll the geotextile fabric on the compacted subgrade, ensuring it is free of wrinkles and folds. Follow the engineer's instructions for overlapping the fabric. If a stitch seam is required, Cherokee can pre-sew the fabric for you. Contact your Cherokee representative for pricing on factory seamed rolls in wider widths.
On the job site, stitch the fabric using a dual thread lock stitch to prevent it from unthreading. Cherokee offers equipment for purchase or rental to perform the stitching. Depending on the engineer's discretion, choose a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam. In this example, we will be using a j-seam. It is recommended to do two stitches on each seam to prevent any failure during installation.
Place the specified thickness of aggregate, ensuring that no equipment drives directly on the engineered fill. Make sure the fill reaches full compaction before proceeding to the final step.
