To begin, excavate the roadway to the desired elevation. Then, thoroughly compact the subgrade, ensuring all air is removed and the soil is tightly packed.
Roll out the geotextile fabric onto the compacted subgrade, ensuring it is free of wrinkles and folds. Follow the engineer's instructions for overlapping the fabric. If a stitch seam is required, Cherokee offers pre-sewn fabric rolls in wider widths. Contact your Cherokee representative for pricing.
In some cases, the fabric needs to be stitched on-site. Use a dual thread lock stitch to prevent the fabric from unthreading. Cherokee provides equipment for purchase or rental to perform the stitching. Depending on the engineer's discretion, you can choose a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam. In this example, we will be using a j-seam. It is recommended to do two stitches on each seam to ensure installation durability.
Place the specified thickness of aggregate, taking care to avoid driving equipment directly on the engineered fill. Ensure the fill is fully compacted before proceeding to the final step.
