Step 1 - Prepare the Road Surface

 

Begin by excavating the roadway to the desired elevation. Then, ensure that the subgrade is fully compacted, removing any air and tightening the soil completely.

 

Step 2 - Unroll the Reinforcement Geotextile Fabric

 

Roll out the geotextile fabric onto the compacted subgrade, ensuring it is free of wrinkles and folds. If a stitch seam is required, Cherokee can pre-sew the fabric for you. Contact your Cherokee representative for pricing on factory-seamed rolls in wider widths.

 

Step 3 - Sew the Geotextile Fabric

 

In this example, the fabric needs to be stitched on-site. Use a dual thread lock stitch to prevent the fabric from unthreading. We offer equipment for purchase or rental to assist with the stitching process. Depending on the engineer's discretion, you can choose a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam. For this example, we will be using a j-seam. It is recommended to do two stitches on each seam to ensure a secure installation.

 

Step 4 - Apply Aggregate

 

Place the specified thickness of aggregate, taking care to avoid driving equipment directly on the engineered fill. Ensure that the fill is fully compacted before proceeding to the final step.

 

Step 5 - Lay Asphalt

 

With the subbase in place, you are now ready to lay your pavement layer(s) depending on the project type.
