Start by excavating the roadway to the desired elevation. Then, fully compact the subgrade, removing all air and tightening the soil completely.
Roll out the geotextile fabric onto the compacted subgrade, ensuring it is free of wrinkles and folds. If a stitch seam is required, Cherokee can pre-sew the fabric for you. Contact your Cherokee representative for pricing on factory-seamed rolls in wider widths.
In some cases, the fabric needs to be stitched on-site. Use a dual thread lock stitch to prevent the fabric from unthreading. We offer equipment for purchase or rental to assist with the stitching process. Depending on the engineer's discretion, you can choose a prayer seam, j-seam, or butterfly seam. For this example, we will be using a j-seam. It is recommended to do two stitches on each seam to ensure a secure installation.
Place the specified thickness of aggregate, taking care to avoid driving equipment directly on the engineered fill. Ensure the fill is fully compacted before proceeding to the final step.
With the subbase in place, you are now ready to lay your pavement layer(s) depending on the project type.
